Tired of Amazon notifications cluttering your inbox or phone? Learn step-by-step how to disable email, SMS, and push alerts to regain control of your preferences.
In the current world we are living, we are bombarded with so many notifications.
Amazon, a platform the majority of Americans are using, is sending a copious number of email notifications.
It can get tiring very quickly. This is mostly because the number of email notifications that are relevant and where you need to place your attention is minimal.
A substantial amount of emails are just marketing offers you likely do not care about at that moment.
That’s why my goal for the day is to help you minimize the number of email notifications you are receiving from Amazon.
Let’s see how to do that.
What Type of Notifications is Amazon Sending?
There are 3 types of notifications you can get from Amazon:
Push notifications
SMS notifications
Email notifications
The most common ones are email notifications, while the majority of hate is directed toward push notifications. That happens because, as the word itself describes, they are pushy and disturb our focus.
SMS and push notifications are most commonly used to notify you about packages being shipped or delivered. This helps you learn how late does Amazon deliver, track your package and make sure you get it on time.
If this information is relevant to you, then you should keep those notifications on.
If however, you don’t want to know about them, this is how you can silence push notifications on your phone or tablet.
How To Turn Off Amazon Push Notifications
Amazon sends push notifications only if you have installed their app.
So to silence Amazon’s push notifications on your phone, you will have to do that through Amazon’s app.
Here’s how to do it:
Open the menu, and go to “Settings”.
Choose “Notifications”.
Disable all notifications you don’t want to see. If you want to stop shipping and delivery notifications, choose “Shipment Notifications” and then set them off.
How to Stop Amazon’s Delivery Text Messages
If Amazon is sending SMS messages directly to your phone, it must be because you have set up those notifications on your account and if you’ve added your phone number.
However, you can turn off Amazon SMS notifications without having to go into settings.
You can disable Amazon’s SMS notifications by replying “STOP” to one of the notifications, or sending a text message with “STOP” to 262966.
How To Disable Notifications For Specific Shipments
With the two options above, you would be disabling SMS and push notifications for all order updates.
However, if you don’t want to do that, you can disable SMS and push notifications for specific packages only.
To do that:
Go to “Your Orders” page.
Select the package in question. You will see an option to control “Shipment Updates via Text“.
How Do I Change Amazon Email Preferences?
Amazon emails that are most annoying and useless are those involving marketing offers.
These are not the ones that require your immediate attention and can also be very detrimental. They push you to take action. As Amazon algorithms know you well, it’s likely you will receive offers for things that are interesting to you.
However, that doesn’t mean you should buy them.
Disabling these is fairly easy, however.
Go to Communication Preferences Center, and you will be able to pick and choose which email notifications you would like to receive.
To turn off Marketing emails, choose the first option and the window will open.
You can also pick and choose from which departments you would like to receive promotional emails. If you are only interested in musical instruments, for example, then you don’t care to see any offers in regards to Home & Garden.
FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Does amazon email security alerts?
Yes, Amazon occasionally sends out Security Alerts, that include information vital to your account. This can include password changes, or any unknown activity.
There’s no way to shutdown these alerts, and you shouldn’t be, unless your plan is to get your account in danger.
How do I know if an email from Amazon is legit?
Any legit Amazon email notification will be received from an email address that ends with amazon.com, or any other international Amazon address (like amazon.co.uk).
Phishing scams involving Amazon are common. If you receive an email from a source that claims they are Amazon, the easiest and fastest check include looking at their email extension.
If it’s not a legit one, do not proceed further with any action. This puts your Amazon account in danger, along with information you are storing there (personal and credit card information).
Bottom Line
Now that you know how to handle your Amazon notifications, you should be able to control what type of offers and information get in front of you.
My advice is to disable all promotional emails, but keep package tracking information, so you know if a package gets delivered to the wrong address, and can reach out to the seller to remedy the situation.
